Everton Plaza awarded GOLD at the Good Design Australia Awards.
The vision for Everton Plaza, located in Brisbane’s North at Everton Park, was to embrace the centres authentic 1970’s red brick character and create a place for the local community that brought people together offering a unique experience. In contrast to what many developers might have done and knocked down the old centre, Red Group embraced the strong trading small retailers who were part of the fabric of the local community and their faithful following.
Rather than engaging an architect or urban planner, Reds Group approached COMUNiTI to bring their vision for the revitalization of the tired suburb shopping centre into a thriving local hub. Leveraging COMUNiTI’s ability to strategically blend business goals with human experience, to design a place that fosters the creation of community. Our brief was to create an innovative new retail and dining precinct that is designed to support local business and facilitate human connection.
Retaining the centre’s original ground work and the site’s heritage, we reconfigured how the tenancies addressed the rear service laneway transforming it into a bustling food and beverage laneway. This solution created a place for the community to come together, encourage engagement and support local businesses.
We are extremely proud that the COMUNiTI team were entrusted by Reds Group to bring its vision to life and support the wider team in to creating the final outcome. Collectively we were able to successfully contribute to a better-performing local economy and happier, healthier, more connected community.
Along with our project partners, Reds Group, Studio Arkitecture & Hoyne, we are excited to see this precinct continue to evolve.
