Inspiration

Over the last 6 months I have been working towards my goal of fundraising $10k for The Hunger Project as part of my pledge to participate in their Leadership Immersion Program run in partnership with Business Chicks.

The best part is that I hit my target whilst attending the Business Chicks Movers & Breakers conference where I was lucky enough to hear Cathy Burke, past Australian CEO and now Global Partnerships Leader for The Hunger Project.  Listening to Cathy speak on the 9 steps of Transformation gave me a small insight into what I was about to participate in and the empowerment that these 9 steps have given to so many women and communities to take action.

Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 FINALIST  |  Telstra Business Women’s Awards

Friday night was a celebration of Queensland’s leading Business Women, and I was incredibly honoured to be standing amongst them.  I never believed that this was a possibility, and after hearing from the awards organisers that they had received a record number of applications for the Entrepreneur category, I was even more amazed that I had made it to the final 3 selected for Queensland.
Becoming a finalist in this years Telstra Business Women’s Awards in the Entrepreneur of the Year category I have to admit is a little surreal…. When asked by the judges during the shortlisting interview if I had always wanted to be an entrepreneur, I laughed and said I’d always wanted my own business... thinking to myself I can’t even spell entrepreneur!  [thank god for spell check!].

What do Barrack Obama, Charles Darwin & Warren Buffett have in common? They each are strong advocates of diversity of thinking to achieve the best outcome.

The notion that the best ideas are ones generated collectively as a team, was a hot topic at this year’s Worktech event in Sydney. Specifically, the discussions centred around how this way of thinking could be applied within the workplace to enhance a business’s operations, increase staff engagement and revolutionise the company’s culture and brand.

Due to security risks associated with travelling to Ethiopia, we're now off to Malawi!

As a child of the 80’s, I remember seeing the TV adds of the children of Ethiopia suffering from starvation and poverty and wanting desperately to help them and to sponsor a child. Now, almost 30 years later I am going to meet the communities and families who filled my lounge room from my TV as a child, to see them as adults and meet the children of their own. But what’s different is that I won’t be sponsoring them, I’m going to be learning about leadership from them.

We are all guilty of not stretching enough, particularly if we work several hours a day. The last thing we want to do when we come home is stretch, am I right? Below are five very easy, simple exercises that you can do at your workplace so that you do not have to feel as bad about flopping down onto your couch the minute you get home from work. However, your body may feel so good after these stretches that you may want to do them at home every night!

Our vision, mission and values were a few lines of text pulled together to complete the HR manual... I knew how important they were to framing the context of what we do and how we do it, but as a start up with a few grand visions, I just didn't have the clarity to pin point it.

2.5 years on, the business has grown and those few dot points no longer align with our strategic direction, nor do they give clarity to our growing team on WHY we are here.

Watch how emerging technologies could help transform the way we get things done in a highly inter-connected and information rich...
