Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 FINALIST  |  Telstra Business Women’s Awards

Friday night was a celebration of Queensland’s leading Business Women, and I was incredibly honoured to be standing amongst them.  I never believed that this was a possibility, and after hearing from the awards organisers that they had received a record number of applications for the Entrepreneur category, I was even more amazed that I had made it to the final 3 selected for Queensland.
Becoming a finalist in this years Telstra Business Women’s Awards in the Entrepreneur of the Year category I have to admit is a little surreal…. When asked by the judges during the shortlisting interview if I had always wanted to be an entrepreneur, I laughed and said I’d always wanted my own business... thinking to myself I can’t even spell entrepreneur!  [thank god for spell check!].

Our Chief Creative and Director, Melissa Marsden, recently presented for Depot X on the importance of design for the workplace.

In this Vlog, Melissa explains how design can directly influence behaviours, create inclusive leadership and transform the physical environment into an important asset for your business.

Due to security risks associated with travelling to Ethiopia, we're now off to Malawi!

As a child of the 80’s, I remember seeing the TV adds of the children of Ethiopia suffering from starvation and poverty and wanting desperately to help them and to sponsor a child. Now, almost 30 years later I am going to meet the communities and families who filled my lounge room from my TV as a child, to see them as adults and meet the children of their own. But what’s different is that I won’t be sponsoring them, I’m going to be learning about leadership from them.

A vision statement is sometimes called a picture of your business in the future but it’s so much more than that. Your vision statement is your inspiration, the framework for all your strategic planning.

A vision statement answers the question, “Where do we want to go?”

Our vision, mission and values were a few lines of text pulled together to complete the HR manual... I knew how important they were to framing the context of what we do and how we do it, but as a start up with a few grand visions, I just didn't have the clarity to pin point it.

2.5 years on, the business has grown and those few dot points no longer align with our strategic direction, nor do they give clarity to our growing team on WHY we are here.

You now know how much space you need and your brand position, now where is that ideal space located? This is the perfect opportunity to set your business up for greatness and that means you have the opportunity to consider where your business would be most productive.
